1929- . US biochemist. The structure of the
antibody gamma globulin (one of the body's
defences) was worked out by Rodney Porter by
1962. Edelman tackled the related problem of
working out the sequence of 1330 amino acids
that compose the antibody. The task was
completed by 1969 and won for Edelman a share
of the 1972 Nobel Prize for Medicine with
Porter.
